ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks
A key focus for Kentucky is preparing each student for college/career. Kentucky's future accountability system will include indicators of college/career readiness from the following areas: Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS), readiness assessments (EXPLORE, PLAN and the ACT) and the Graduation Rate.
Administration of the EXPLORE and PLAN assessments, which are provided by ACT, Inc., was mandated by Senate Bill 130 in the 2006 session of the Kentucky General Assembly. The two assessments are designed to help schools focus on meeting academic standards across the entire secondary school program.
Kentucky requires all juniors to take the ACT. *The chart above displays the college readiness benchmarks established by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). The CPE benchmarks for each tested subject are English (18), Mathematics (19) and Reading (20). Please notice that the CPE benchmarks are different from the ACT College benchmarks in Math and Reading.
