School Profile



    Hopkins County Central High School is a comprehensive high school with an enrollment of approximately 900 students in grades 9 through 12.  The school is a member of the College Entrance Examination Board and the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools (ACT/CEEB code 181-952) and is accredited by the Kentucky Department of Education.  Approximately 65% – 75% of each graduating class attends some type of post-secondary training. 

    The curriculum includes a variety of honors courses, and Advanced Placement courses in English Language (English 3), English Literature (English 4), World History, United States History, Government, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish and Studio Art.  Three curricular programs are offered:  Honors, Pre-College, and Standard.

    The school year is divided into three trimesters.  A trimester is 12-weeks.  One half credit represents one trimester’s work.  A school day is divided into 6 periods. Classes meet daily for 60 minutes.  A student can earn up to 7.5 credits per school year.

    Class rank is based on a cumulative, weighted GPA.  All AP courses are weighted on a 5.0 grading scale.  All students enrolled in the graduating class are considered when determining class rank.  However, to be eligible for valedictorian, salutatorian, or historian honors, students must complete the honors curriculum and at least two (2) Advanced Placement courses.

     Grading System:      A = 90 – 100                              Grade Point Average:       A = 4.0

                                        B = 80 – 89                                                                             B = 3.0

                                        C = 70 – 79                                                                             C = 2.0

                                        D = 60 – 69                                                                             D = 1.0

                                        F = Below 60                                                                          F  = 0.0
