  • Welcome to Ms. Cabiness' Art Classes!

    Dear parents and students,

Welcome to our art classes at Hopkins County Central High School!  I am very excited about our year ahead.  I anticipate a great year filled with explorations and accomplishments.  It will be a year of learning and growth as students, teachers, and parents work together as a team to create the best possible experience for each student individually and our classes as a whole.  Our classroom community will be grounded in mutual respect, a comfortable environment that invites all questions, and a passion to make learning a life-long adventure.

Please allow me to introduce myself.  I began pursuing a career in art education by attending the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where I received an undergraduate degree in Media Arts and Animation.  Afterwards, I received my teaching credentials and Masters in Art Education at the University of the Cumberlands.  I thoroughly enjoy seeing students put their creativity to use while taking their self-expression to new heights.  I have been fortunate to teach at Hopkins County Central High School for the past 6 years.  Previously, I taught in both Lyon County and Christian County.  I am currently working towards my Rank 1 through the University of the Cumberlands in the area of School Counseling.  I enjoy the thrill of facilitating students in their learning process.  This is my seventh year in the Hopkins County School District and I am extremely excited to be adding Animation to my visual arts curriculum at HCCHS.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking in the Smoky Mountains, bike riding, reading, journaling, traveling and spending time with friends and family.  This summer, I had the opportunity to travel to Pennsylvania and Nashville.  I enjoy sharing with students my experiences, photos and knowledge about various places I have visited.

In the weeks and months ahead, we will explore art rich in cultures beyond that of our own, creatively work through a variety of visual art problems, express ourselves, be inspired, and much more.  Our class website will keep you and your child connected and informed about what’s going on in our classroom.  On it, you will find features such as class updates, printable homework assignments, student links, and a class calendar.  It is a valuable tool that you should access on a regular basis during the school year.  Our class website is: https://www.hopkins.kyschools.us/Domain/446.   The best way to contact me is by email, at julie.cabiness@hopkins.kyschools.us.

For the love of learning all things art,

    Ms. Cabiness
