English Dept. - Room # 1159

  • Welcome to my Website!

Before you begin navigating my site, I thought I might tell you a little about myself.  I began my teaching career in 2001 at Browning Springs Middle School where I taught reading/language arts.  After two years at BSMS I transferred to Madisonville North Hopkins High School.  For four years at MNHHS, I taught 9th-11th grade English.  At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, I came to Hopkins County Central High School.  While I enjoyed my time at the other schools, I truly felt at home when I came to HCCHS since I graduated from South Hopkins High School before it became South Hopkins Middle School.  During my time at Central, I have taught 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English, yearbook, journalism, creative writing, and speech.

I received my B.A. in English with certification in secondary education from Lindsey Wilson College and my M.A. in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in reading from Grand Canyon University.  I am currently working on a second master's degree for my Rank I in library media at Murray State University.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Larry, to whom I've been married for 15 years (16 in October), my two stepchildren, Emily and Matt, both of whom graduated from Central, and my chihuahua, Duke.

During my free time I like to read and shop.  I also enjoy spending time outdoors.  In the summertime I like to go swimming, fishing, and camping.

I am excited to begin the 2017-2018 school year, and I am so glad to have you in my class!  We are going to have a great year!  This site will provide you with information and resources that will be helpful throughout the school year.  If you cannot find what you are looking for on this page, please contact me by emailing amanda.haynes@hopkins.kyschools.us or calling 270-825-6133 ext. 51061.
