Stark Selected Southside Principal
Erika Stark has been selected as principal of Southside Elementary School. She has been an educator at Southside for the past 15 years and most recently served as the school’s curriculum coordinator.
“I am very excited about going down this new path in my career,” Stark said. “Being selected by Southside’s SBDM for the principal position is definitely an honor and a privilege. I want to thank Superintendent Ashby and the SBDM Council for their trust in my leadership. I would also like to thank (retiring Principal) Mrs. Millie Seiber for what she has done at Southside and helping me to learn valuable skills that I will use as principal. I am honored to carry forward the leadership she has shown at Southside Elementary.”
Stark earned an associate degree from Madisonville Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, master’s degree in education administration, and a professional certificate for instructional leadership – supervisor of instruction Level 2, all from Murray State University.
“I am a very community-oriented person and look to strengthen the bond between the Southside facility, staff, and the community,” Stark said. “My heart is in education and I have a strong desire to see each and every child achieve success.
She started her career as a substitute teacher in Hopkins County Schools and Dawson Springs Independent Schools. She taught kindergarten and 4th grade at Southside before becoming curriculum coordinator in 2018. She has been a PTA Board member, and served on the SBDM Council and School Leadership Team.
“Congratulations to Mrs. Stark,” said Superintendent Dr. Deanna Ashby. “During her interview, she described Southside Elementary as ‘my home, my community.’ We are looking forward to working with her in this new role. I want to thank the SBDM Council for their time and dedication through this process. Lastly, thanks to Mrs. Seiber for her many years of service.”
