Belcher Named Director of Assessment

Andy Belcher has been selected as Director of Assessment for Hopkins County Schools.

He has served as an administrator in the district for 17 years, most recently as guidance counselor at Andy Belcher James Madison Middle School. He has also been principal of Hopkins County Day Treatment and Hopkins County Schools Academy, guidance counselor at Sebree Elementary, and a teacher at Broadway Elementary in Providence.

“I feel both extremely honored and humbled to have been selected as the next Director of Assessment for our school district,” Belcher said. “Because I am an only child, people I knew in school were like my family in many ways, beginning when I was in kindergarten at West Broadway Elementary School nearly 40 years ago. … Several incredible leaders have mentored me over the years, and I owe each of them a very special thanks.

Outstanding instruction is taking place in our classrooms, with learning at levels higher than we have ever seen,” Belcher said. “As Director of Assessment, I am committed to supporting teachers in their craft, and helping parents and the community understand our children’s progress along the way.”

He earned a bachelor’s degree in middle school education, a master’s degree in guidance and counseling, and completed a 5th-year program in school psychology at Murray State University. He holds certificates and endorsements in middle school math and science, school counseling, individual intellectual assessment, school psychology, supervisor of instruction, principalship and director of pupil personnel.

“Andy Belcher brings a wealth of knowledge to our team,” said Hopkins County Schools Superintendent Deanna Ashby. “His 17 years of experience as a guidance counselor, certification and experience as a school psychologist, serving as building assessment coordinator, and certification in math and science will more than prepare him for this new chapter of his professional journey.

“We are really excited that he’s here,” she said. “His hands-on experience and working knowledge with middle school instruction and curriculum will help round out our team.”
