New Hanson Principal Selected

Christian Klaas, an administrator in Christian Klaas Hopkins County Schools for the past three years, has been selected as principal of Hanson Elementary School.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be the next principal of Hanson Elementary School,” Klaas said. “I want to thank the members of the SBDM Council and Superintendent (Deanna) Ashby for putting their trust in me.

“Hanson Elementary has a rich tradition of success, student achievement, and high-quality instruction along with a faculty and staff that truly care for their students’ well-being,” he said. “I am eager to meet the students, families, and all the staff of the Hanson Elementary School community and can’t wait to get traditional school started again as soon as possible.”

Klaas earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies/secondary education 8-12, master’s degree in teacher leadership/endorsement in educational technology, and a Rank 1 degree in school administration and supervisor of instruction, all from Murray State University.

He has served as director of secondary instruction for the present school year, and was an assistant principal at Madisonville North Hopkins High School for two years. He previously taught and coached at MNHHS and Dawson Springs Junior/Senior High School. His professional experience also includes serving on the Commissioner of Education’s Assessment Work Group.

“The Hanson Elementary School principal’s job is going to be a big challenge. Building a new school while having school in the current building and dealing with ongoing traffic issues will require a lot of attention and time,” said Hopkins County Schools Superintendent Dr. Deanna Ashby. “I have no doubt that Christian Klaas is the right person for the job. His professional experiences and levelheadedness will certainly help him to troubleshoot any challenges and issues that may arise. During the time that I have worked with him, he has always had a great love for students and for teaching and learning. He will bring a fresh set of eyes to the school and is a forward thinker that will help transition us to the next level.”
