Based on the governor’s announcement that the start of in-person instruction should be delayed because of rising COVID-19 case numbers, it will be recommended to the Board of Education that we start school on Aug. 26 using #HCSatHome, our NTI program. That means all students will start the year with virtual/blended learning.
We will continue to revisit this as we move into the school year. However, the governor has said no one should start in-person instruction prior to Sept. 28. Our district hasn’t been together as a family of students and staff since March. We miss our kids, and it saddens us to receive this recommendation.
We realize this is a challenge for our working parents and community, however the governor’s announcement was not unexpected based on our current numbers. We continue to work with the local business community through Operation: Caring for Our Kids to seek new options for child care.
The soft openings planned for our in-person students will be rescheduled when it is deemed safe to return. Our schools will be reaching out to families with specific instructions regarding the start of the school year. We will offer a breakfast and lunch program for all students and will release more information on this soon.
