South Hopkins Groundbreaking

The official groundbreaking was held yesterday afternoon for the South Hopkins School project! This project involves building a middle A group of kids stand near the school school addition to Southside Elementary School.

We are excited to see construction get started!

Project Highlights include the following:

  • The 64,640-square-foot addition will include middle school classrooms, administrative offices, media center, and a middle school-sized gym. The existing gym on the elementary side will remain.

  • The new gymnasium will serve as a storm shelter not only for our students and staff but also for the community.

  • The two-story addition will be on the northwest side of the current elementaryTwo large artists renderings of building and plans school. There will be a courtyard between the two buildings that will provide additional outdoor learning space.

  • There will be an addition to the kitchen as well as a renovation of that space.

  • The car rider line and a majority of parking will be where the current South Hopkins Middle School parking lot is located. The line will be stacked to allow adequate space for vehicles. Drop-off will be in the same location for all students, with separate pathways to the elementary and middle school areas.

  • Construction is expected to start in March 2024. Based on contract documents, we expect the project to be substantially complete in July 2025.

  • Architects: Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects

  • General Contractor: Danco Construction
