Hopkins County Schools has announced that Derek Stone has been selected to serve as district Director of Transportation. Stone’s 19-year career in education includes six years in administrative leadership, serving as both an assistant principal and principal.
“I am very grateful and thankful to be given the opportunity to serve the Hopkins County community in this new capacity,” Stone said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with all staff to make the transportation process as safe, efficient and enjoyable as possible.”
Stone has served as principal and assistant principal of Webster County Middle School. For the past year, he has been a 4th grade teacher at Grapevine Elementary School. He previously taught at West Hopkins School and Jesse Stuart Elementary School.
He holds an Education Specialist degree in School Leadership, Master of Arts degree in School Administration, and bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, all from Murray State University.
He is a member of the HCS 2024-2025 Rising Leaders cohort and powerlifting coach at Hopkins County Central High School.
“Mr. Stone’s background in managing day-to-day school operations, coordinating staff, and maintaining high standards of service prepares him well for this new role,” said Dr. Damon Fleming, incoming HCS superintendent.
“As Director of Transportation, Mr. Stone will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of student transportation across the district,” Fleming said. “His focus will be on ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable service while supporting the team of professionals who make that work possible each day. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Stone to this important position and offer him your full support as he begins this work.”
